Underwired Bras

Underwired bras use a curved wire (usually metal or shaped plastic) along the bottom of each cup to provide structural support and shape. It's the standard for most bra construction because it works — properly fitted underwire gives more support, better shape, and better positioning than wireless construction, especially for larger busts.

The wire has to fit properly. It should sit flat against the ribcage, following the natural under-bust line, without poking into the bust or digging into the ribs. If it doesn't, the bra doesn't fit — and no amount of fabric quality will fix that. This is why fit matters so much on underwired bras.

Where underwired bras work: everyday wear, fitted clothes where shape matters, larger busts where support matters, dress-up occasions. Where they don't: sleep (obviously), long flights, anytime maximum comfort matters more than shape.

Underwired bras generally last longer than wireless — the structure is more consistent through wash and wear. Care matters: hand-wash or gentle cycle in a mesh bag, hang to dry.
