Classic Nightgown
Classic Nightgowns
A classic nightgown is what most people picture when they hear the word — a proper nightgown, not a slip, not a chemise. Three-quarter or long sleeves, a finished neckline (often with lace or a simple bias edge), a hem hitting at the knee or ankle. Full coverage, elegant in a restrained way, made to actually sleep in.
The construction is straightforward but has to be done right. The shoulder seam has to sit at the shoulder, or the whole thing pulls. The sleeve has to fit properly — not tight at the biceps, not falling over the hand. The neckline has to finish cleanly, either with a clean bias edge or with proper lace trim (not glued-on trim, which is what cheap nightgowns tend to have).
Our classic nightgown collection comes in bamboo (the everyday workhorse — soft, breathable, machine-washable), silk (for the temperature-regulating case and the way silk moves), and satin (for weight and drape).
Sleeve lengths run from three-quarter (the most common) to full long-sleeve for cooler weather or people who prefer more coverage. Neckline treatments vary — clean rounded necklines, V-necks with lace trim, higher necklines with lace inserts.
Care depends on fabric — silk hand-wash or mesh bag, bamboo cool machine wash, satin gentle cycle.
